FAQ’s

Q. How much hair do I need to send?

A. In general I require a section of hair the thickness of your little finger and a minimum of 12″ in length. All strands need to be of the same length. The best place to harvest the hair is from the bottom of the dock bone in the middle of the tail. Taking it from here, it won’t be missed and it should all be of the same length. To ensure that there is no unslightly regrowth, please pluck the hair from this area, rather than cutting with scissors.

If your horse has sadly crossed the rainbow bridge and don’t have long lengths of hair, feel free to contact me and we can discuss what will be best suited for the hair that you have. As all my jewellery is handcrafted here in my workshop, then I can easily adjust each piece to suit your requirement.

Q. Can I send hair from different horses tails?

A. Of course you can

Q. Can I send mane hair?

A. Ideally tail hair is the best and by far the longest. Unfortunately mane hair is not strong enough or long enough for bracelets or keyrings, but is better suited for our necklaces

Q. How long will it take to process my order?

A. You should have your order returned to you in 2 – 3 weeks from the hair being received. Rings and gold orders can take up to 8 weeks. Christmas orders may take a little longer due to the volume of orders being received.

Q. Is it possible to receive my order quicker?

A. If you have a specific deadline, like a birthday or special occasion, we will endeavour to make sure you receive your order in good time.

Q. How do I prepare the hair and send it to you?

A. Once you have harvested the hair, secure the top with a band and place in a small plastic bag and then envelope it up along with your written order and send it to Seirendipity Equine, Deenystown, Letterkenny, Co Donegal. As tail hair is precious, particularly if your 4 legged friends are no longer with us, please use registered post. Until such time that your order arrives, I am not responsible for any undelivered envelopes. Hair should not be washed prior to sending. I will wash the amount of hair I require to make your bespoke piece. This is all part of the service I provide. Once I receive your envelope I will contact you to let you know it has arrived safely.

Q. Do you accept Paypal or Revolut?

A. Yes. Paypal and Revolut are preferred methods of payment. I will invoice you a Paypal invoice once I receive your hair. If you would prefer to pay by bank draft or postal order, please make the payment out to Sally Rowell and include it in with your order.

Q. What happens to the unused hair?

A. Unused hair will be returned to you along with your order, in a keepsake bag.

Q. Do you do Gift Vouchers?

A. Yes, gift vouchers are available in any denomination and can be either emailed or posted out to you.

Q. How do I care for my jewellery?

A. As with all precious jewellery, it is necessary to take good care of it. Avoid showering or swimming with your jewellery on. If you need to clean the braid, use a mild baby shampoo and allow to dry naturally. Alternatively you can wipe, in the direction of the hair, with a baby wipe.Silver and gold ends should be cleaned if the proprietary cleaner, ensuring that it does not come in contact with the braid. If a strand should snag or break, take a pair of nail clippers and snip it off as close to the braid as possible and then ‘wiggle’ the bracelet so the snipped end merges into the middle of the braid.
